But the first self-storage company was founded in Omaha, Nebraska. Instead of horse-drawn carriages, they used motor trucks. Self-storage became more popular in the late 1900s.
In the 1960s, rent rates where 15 cents per square foot a month. In 1985, the rent rate raised to 60 cents a month. By the 190s, the rent rate average was around a dollar a month. This was per square feet. Today, the rent rate could average from $1.40-$4 a month. This would change over time because of the market.
