DINO’S DOES MORE THAN JUST STORAGE-WE RUN TOO!!

2013-Fight-For-Air-Corporate-Cup

Some of you may or may not know our owner, Dave is an avid athlete. “Fight For Air-Corporate Cup” is something he takes great pride in participating in every year. The Corporate Cup is among the largest of corporate road races in the United States, and recently ranked 10th best 10K.  From the first Corporate Cup in 1981, the event has experienced phenomenal success. In that first year, 29 companies entered and 681 runners crossed the finish line. In 2012, 262 companies entered with more than 11,000 registrants.

The date is September 15th  and Dino’s Storage is going to have a team. The race is going to be at Aksarben this year so it’s an exciting new venue. To sign up or just find out more about this wonderful event go to http://omahacorporatecup.org.  There is also a 100 yard dash for kids ages 5-10 years old.~Participants may choose to WALK or RUN a 2-mile course or a 10K USATF certified course.~ All participants (10K and 2 mile) will be professionally timed and ranked by timing chips.~ Participants can compete with a corporate team or as an individual.~ The course will start in front of Blue Cross Blue Shield on Aksarben Drive and will finish at the intersection of Mercy Drive and 67th Street.~ Registration opens at 6:30am. The 10K and 2 mile race will start at 8:00 AM. The kid’s 100 yard dash starts at approx. 9:30 AM.~ MP3 players and strollers are allowed on the course, but remember to be courteous to the other participants.~ No pets are allowed on the course.

The Corporate Cup’s unique character, businesses and their employees coming together to have fun and fight lung disease, is the basis for its success.  Come celebrate the 33rd year of this great event and help the more than 200,000 Nebraskans who suffer from lung disease!  Hey you can even win a car!!  Raffle tickets can be purchased from the American Lung Association office (8990 West Dodge Road), from team captains, or day of the race.  At the conclusion of the race, 6 names will be drawn.  The vehicle will then be given away at the Awards Celebration on October 2nd to one of the 6 lucky individuals.

Dino’s In The Community — Making Strides

On May 4th I participated in the 2013 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Des Moines, IA.  Our goal for the walk was to raise awareness as well as collect donations to benefit breast cancer research and to support all of the survivors as well as all of the woman who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The American Cancer Society has helped more than 4 million woman get breast cancer screening tests and there are over 2 ½ million survivors.  I had the honor of being on the team of Miss Stasey, who is a breast cancer survivor.  This particular event was very cold and rainy but that did not stop the dedicated participants from walking to support Making Strides.  I wanted to do something special during the walk so I hand wrapped 110 flower suckers to hand out and remind people to smile.  We were able to raise over $20,000 at this event alone!!  I would like to give a very big thank you to Dave Paladino, the owner of Dino’s Storage, for his generous donation of $110 to support my fund raising goal.

Cancer of all forms has affected many lives.  You may be a survivor or know someone who has cancer.  Fact is that cancer is affecting more and more people and we need to do our part to schedule check-ups, maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly to help beat the odds.  I personally know many people that have passed from cancer, a few that are currently going through treatments and thankfully those, like my father, that are in remission.

If you would like more information about breast cancer, visit cancer.org/fightbreastcancer or contact the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 anytime.
