Dino’s Storage offers tips on organizing your storage unit!

One too many times I have seen tenants open their storage units and their belongings start falling out or half their unit is out on the driveway while they are looking for that one special box. Here are some tips to save you a lot of time and energy in the future when accessing your unit.

 

First, when picking boxes make sure they are all the same size. Medium is recommended. This will help in stacking and accessibility. Make sure your boxes are labeled for storing in the correct area of your unit.

You will need to divide your storage contents into categories based on accessibility, visibility, and out of sight storage. Accessible items would be located in the front of the unit and out of sight in the back. Within those three categories, you can organize your unit based on lawn and garden, hardware, sports and recreation, seasonal items, etc..

Determine how your unit will best be designed. You will want to take measurements and sketch a plan to determine the components needed. If you are adding shelves, they can be purchased at any big box store or you can build your own. Shelving kits will require some assembly with basic tools. Be sure your shelving is free standing and you are not putting any pressure on the unit walls or ceiling.

We also recommend you leave a path in the middle so you can access the whole unit easily. Organizing your unit eliminates clutter, allows you to efficiently pack away your belongings, and create more functional space.

GRIT

If you are a western movie fan, the first thing you think of when you see the word grit is probably the movie “True Grit” with John Wayne as “Rooster” Cogburn. Others may think of the food, grits that comes out of the south. Grit is something else.

Grit is not a trait that requires immediate, positive feedback. Grit is not “I tried my best” and giving up. Grit is being able to stay determined and motivated over a long period of time despite failures and adversity. It is the stamina to “stay the course.” Grit is perseverance, motivation, ambition to overcome the challenges and obstacles. Our society needs a little more “grit” today, I pray we can find it.

What To Look For In A Storage Facility

Storage facilities can be found in old and new communities across the country. There are several factors you should consider before making your decision on what facility you will store your belongings with.

  • Cost – Shop around and get prizes from several facilities. Be sure to understand what your exact financial responsibility will be.
  • Size – What size will you need and is that size available?
  • Climate – Do you need climate or non-climate control? Will your items be stored on cement or dirt? Does the facility have the potential to flood?
  • Insurance – Do you currently have a renter or home owner’s policy? Check with your agent to see what your coverage is. Does the facility provide any coverage you can purchase?
  • Security – Secure your unit with a “closed shackle padlock” commonly known as a disc lock. Does the facility have a security gate/door? Is the property fenced? Does it have security cameras?
  • Access – What hours do you have access? Is your unit easily accessible? Does the facility provide moving equipment you can access?
  • Contract – Does the facility offer a written lease? Be sure to understand the terms of the lease from payment to termination requirements. Make sure the facility has multiple ways of contacting you.

At Dino’s Storage Bondurant, you are financially responsible for your monthly rent, a $10 application fee, and your padlock. We do have insurance and packing supplies available for purchase. We are a non-climate control facility with 5×10, 10×10, 10×20, and 10×25 size units available. Your items are stored on cement and we are a well drained facility. You have access 24/7 and will be provided a code for our security gate. We are fenced and have cameras on the property. Our leases are on a month to month basis.

Forbes Ranks Des Moines #1

Forbes Magazine has ranked Des Moines the #1 place for business and careers. Des Moines was the only metro city to rank in the top quartile for 9 of the 12 measures. In 2012, Des was ranked 4th, has finished in the top 10 since 2007 and also ranked #1 in 2010.

Des Moines offers businesses a skilled workforce with 36% of the population having college degrees and 92% high school diplomas. The metro is very attractive for young professionals and the business community is very active in supporting programs and organizations that engage them.

Des Moines has a strong presence in the financial and insurance industries, with large employers like Wells Fargo, Aviva, Wellmark, and Principal Financial Group, to name a few. Bondurant “On The Move”

Bondurant is located in the heart of central Iowa, right off I-80, with in minutes of I-35, and Hwy 65 runs through town. The town is a premier location for businesses and housing.

The city’s focus is on sustainable growth with a balance between residential, commercial, and park and recreational programs. In 2012, the new construction single family home valuation was $21,313,174 with 64 permits. This set a new record for the city. There was also 81 duplex permits issued. Commerical growth valuation was $2.3 million. A full-time Parks and Recreational Coordinator was hired by the city. Also, “The Depot” is about complete connecting Bondurant to the East Polk County Bike Trail System and Chichaqua Valley Trails. “The Depot” is an open air shelter with restrooms and a water bottle fill station. The building is a replica of the original Bondurant train station.

The City of Bondurant is on the move. Future development plans include a new apartment complex and new businesses are moving to town. This includes a new grocery which is in high demand by the residents. The city is in the final stages of connecting to Waterwaste Reclamation Authority and to removing the sewer lagoons to allow for more growth. New traffic lights will be installed at 32nd Street SW and Hwy 65. These are just a few of the exciting new development plans for Bondurant, many more are in the works.
